“As I sit here and contemplate what my siblings intend to do, I realize that I am forced to act. Whether history will regard my actions as just is not for me to decide. I simply know that I cannot allow their plans to move forward, and I will not raise arms against them. They intend to use my creations, my children, for purposes I had never imagined. My journals, my chronicles, my secrets…as much as it pains me, those must vanish with me.

All I ever wanted was to see what was possible, to give form to potential. Now, I fear I have seen too much.

Still, part of the blame lies with me. Regardless of the reasoning, the medium is my making. The punishment I shall bear is more than fitting. I see no better course of action than to make my gifts my curse.

My dear Calara, if you should ever find these messages, and interpret the cyphers, I hope you can find some solace in knowing that I willfully accepted the responsibility for my actions.

I don’t have the heart, or perhaps the courage, to destroy all of my children, though I have taken the utmost precautions to guard those most dangerous.

Empathic Objects

Definition:

Empathic objects (EOs) are tools that were created (most often) by Paschia that operate and grow in strength based on their connection with their user. There are many types and rarities of empathic objects, ranging from general use, simple tools, to one-of-a-kind tools created in tandem with the essence of the user.

Empathic objects have become central to the life and operation of every sect of the Keepers’ followers.

Empathic Weapons:

An empathic weapon is an EO that is used primarily as a weapon. Very few, if any, of Paschia’s original designs were intended to be used as weapons. However, as the Prolia and other sects evolved, the primary use of many EOs became weaponry.

Unique Empathic Objects:

Unique empathic weapons are EOs that were created by looking into the essence of the user - their mind, body, spirit, and soul - and creating a tool that is complimentary to them in every way. The creation of a unique empathic weapon is exceedingly rare, and, since the fall of Paschia, has only been recorded by elite Prolia while they are completing the Trials. The belief is that the Trials present these unique EOs to those deemed the most worthy. Although, as with much of the Trials, no one is entirely certain of why or how someone is chosen.

Like the creation of most empathic objects, the exact process of creating a unique empathic weapon is unknown. However, according to reports from Prolia who have gone through the process, it happens quite similarly to the sciostone ceremony. Typically, one is presented with a bead of light, or a seed, and in grasping it, the weapon forms around or near you.

Near the beginning of their Trials, both Cooper Bailey and Reid Patterson were presented with unique empathic weapons - a feat that was unprecedented until it had occurred to them.
